Survey Practice Session

14 June – Survey practice session

A small group of us carried out a practice survey of the hedgerows surrounding the fields behind Myddle Church.  Our aim was to see if we could find any ‘species rich’ stretches, that is hedgerows with five or more native species in a 30 meter length.

What are those people doing there?

We did indeed find numerous species – ash, hawthorn, elder, sycamore, field maple,  pedunculate oak, blackthorn, field rose and dog rose – but had some difficulty in visualising what thirty meters looks like ‘on the ground’ .....!
