WEM AND WHITCHURCH DEANERY STUDY COURSE
There are many people who would probably enjoy the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Christian faith with others in a relaxed and informal setting, and so the Deanery Synod has asked us to explore the possibility of holding a course, open to anyone, of any denomination or none, in the Deanery of Wem and Whitchurch (or beyond its borders), in Wem, beginning in September 2009.
We are thinking of weekly meetings, based on the ‘Foundations for Ministry’ course produced by the Diocese of Lichfield. The first term looks at the Old Testament, the second term at the New Testament, and the third term at the History of the Church. Each term is 10 weeks, with quite long breaks at Christmas and Easter.
The course can be taken simply out of interest, with no written work, or it can be the first step, in which case some short essays have to be written, towards further courses which could lead to being licensed as a (lay) reader, a pastoral care minister, an outreach leader, a prayer guide, a leader of youth and children’s work, or as an ordained local minister.
Costs are minimal, probably no more than the charge for the resource material.
If you are interested in this course, or indeed on a possible course on other aspects of Christian faith and practice, do please contact one of us as soon as you can:
