Michael Wood (Historian) visiting Myddle
Visiting on Sunday 2nd October and 3rd October to film for his next series.
We are looking forward to his visit to film Myddle's part in the Civil War to be included in his forthcoming new series on BBC TV.
Michael Wood
For thirty years now, historian and broadcaster Michael Wood has made compelling journeys into the past, which have brought history alive for more than one generation of readers and viewers. This year he passes one hundred documentary films, among them 'Art of the Western World', 'Legacy', 'In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great', 'Conquistadors' and the highly praised television series 'The Story of India' - all of which were accompanied by best-selling books. His most recent work, 'Story of England', tells the story of one community through the whole of English history and with the help of the villagers themselves, explores the lives of the ordinary people against the backdrop of national events across more than a thousand years.
Story of the Nation
Following on from last year's 'Story of England', 'Story of the Nation' is an 8-part series for the BBC, due to air in London's Olympic year. The series will trace the history of the British people from the bottom up and from the regions rather than the centre. Helped by local groups and communities across the UK, and the incredible resources of local archives, museums, societies and universities up and down the land, the Story of the Nation will uncover the British past and chart the many roads by which the people of Britain arrived at their present - the story of how they became us.
